Copshaw Common Riding

Copshaw Common Riding is an annual event held in and around Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders. The day begins with the Hound Trail, a race across the hills. This is followed by 'The Tub' receiving the flag in numerous ceremonies around the town. The Tub is a young local man who leads the events for the year, in the same way the 'Cornet' does in other common riding events. The difference in Newcastleton is that the riding is done on bicycles - not on horses. The day ends with a display by the Jedburgh Pipe Band and the handing in of the flag, when The Tub gives an address to the village. The aim is to have fun, raise money and promote Newcastleton. All funds are given to deserving causes within the town.
